AUTOPROGETTAZIONE - ENZO MARI (1974)
Almost 40 years ago Italian designer Enzo Mari created the furniture manual 'Autoprogettazione' for the construction of 19 pieces of furniture. Conceived as a response to mass-manufactured products each piece can be made from standard timber and simple tools, and encourages a personal connection to the self-made item. Or now you can buy a kit from Artek. Portrait by Jouko Lehtola for Artek, spread from Domus 535 June 1974 from the Making Good library. 01 February 2013 -

LES AMOURS IMAGINAIRES (HEARTBEATS) - XAVIER DOLAN
A story of unrequited love between three 20-somethings in Montreal, this film balances innocence, heaps of colour and style, with some heavy film influences. Heartbeats feels fresh and sincere, and achingly familiar. We admire the entrepreneurial spirit: released in 2010 when he was 21, Dolan wrote, directed, starred in, styled and financed this sweet and accomplished film. We look forward to his new film Laurence Anyways. via movies.nytimes.com -
ATSUKO TANAKA (1932 - 2005)Artist Tanaka's particular fascination with the modernisation of Japan lead her to create the fantastical Electric Dress in 1956 (colour image here). This costume which exemplified her interest in the intangible in art: electricity and sound, seemingly inspired the colour, shape and line for her ongoing art career. Untitled 1964-72 shown above.
